Norcem and Verdalskalk have collaborated for many years on the limestone resources in Tromsdalen, in Verdal municipality in Trøndelag. The limestone resources are of national importance for the supply of raw materials to the lime and cement industry.

Enormous amounts of limestone.

Around 1.5 million tonnes of limestone are extracted annually, and the potential is estimated at several billion tonnes of exploitable limestone down to sea level. This makes the deposit one of Europe's most important limestone deposits, and one of Norway's most important mineral resources.

Our unique expertise increases cargo capacity and reduces ship laytime.

When Verdalskalk needed to expand its quay and increase its loading capacity, the assignment went to Tratec. With our unique expertise in the transport, storage and processing of bulk materials, we were able to offer large, complex systems for the assignment.

Our delivery is a complete ship loading system consisting of 3 conveyors with a total length of approx. 340 metres, 2 reloading houses, 5 tipping pockets with 5 associated variable outlets of 400A for mobile conveyors, and a rotating and retractable ship load. In addition, an operator cabin and automation solutions have been delivered.

The limestone is loaded onto a covered conveyor system using mobile feeders, which in turn are loaded using construction machinery. The ship loader is equipped with a closed chute so that the limestone can be loaded virtually dust-free into the ships. This solution protects both the environment and people in the area.

Thanks to the new ship-loading facility, the port can now accommodate ships of up to 60,000 dwt, which means a significant increase in ship size, loading capacity and a reduction in the total time spent at the quay.
